Life, how I view it, how unpredictable it is and how it can end up kicking you right in the ass.

Cat/ House- sitting 101

For the next week and a half, I'll be cat/ house -sitting for a friend of mine. She lives in a HUGE 3 story house with her husband and two cats. Before she left, she gave me a list of phone numbers, house keys....etc. From there I should have sensed a problem. See, when you enter the main gate, the first thing you would notice is that there are many ways into the house. At the last count, there was one front door, and 3 side doors. So clutching my unlabelled bunch of keys, I listened as she explained which key was for what door. Rule #1 in house sitting, if house possess more than one door, ALWAYS label keys.
Since it didn't occur for me to follow Rule #1, as I was getting ready to leave for work this morning, I realised that I couldn't lock the door despite trying out the whole bunch of keys. At this point in time I was already running late. Looking around, I assessed my options. I could either 1) leave the door unlocked or 2) climb out a window. I chose option two. Instead of leaving one of the windows on the first floor opened, I decided to go out through the basement. The basement is connected to the main house by a dumb waiter which is a small elevator which people use to send stuff up and down, mostly in hotels. They had one in the house so I squashed myself into it and sent myself down to the basement. It was only after that I realised I could have gotten stuck inside and no one would have known. So, Rule #2, Never ride the dumb waiter. ( After re-reading this post, I realised that rule #2 has two meanings. So to those who know what I'm talking about, Yes, do not ride the dumb waiter elevator and do not ride the dumb waiter, full stop.).
After finally getting out of the house, I proceeded to make my way to the bus stop. She just happens to live in one of the most complicated estates in TLOTW, anyone familiar with Kew Terrace and its surroundings will know what I'm referring to. After walking round and round, I still couldn't see the darn bus stop. Rule #3, Familiarise yourself with the surroundings In the end, I followed this lady who looked like she was going to catch the bus, which thankfully she was.
And to think I was worried about the cats giving me problems.
