Sports in The Land of The Wealthy
In the land of the Wealthy ( TLOTW), cars can cost as much as an apartment which is why public transport is the preferred choice of most. Our public transport system is affordable and reliable. Being one of those poor souls who has neither license nor car, I'm at the mercy of the public transport system.
To get to work, I have to take the train. That itself is alright, but I also have to change trains halfway and the interchange where I get off? A million other people get off as well. All one has to do is cross the platform to get to the other train. But with the morning crowds, people do not walk to the next train, they RUN. So in TLOTW, this is known as the 50m train dash. People living in TLOTW are experts at this sport, even 68 year old grandmothers can do the 50m dash in record time. The main aim of this event is to dash to the other train before you hear the door closing signal.
The second event also involves the train. This event takes place during the rush hours, weekends and public holidays. Its the "lets see who can get onto the train first" contest. The aim is to squeeze into the train as soon as the doors open. Who cares if the people inside need to alight first? Why don't we just shove our way in to get a seat? It doesn't matter that there are numerous signs and reminders to "Please let passengers alight first".
Which takes us to the next event, "musical Chairs". Like every train, there are limited seats. It doesn't matter if you're just getting down at the next stop, the main point is to get a seat for yourself. Who cares if there are old people and pregnant ladies who need the seat more than you?
The last event, "Who can pretend to sleep the fastest?" This is in reference to the above. Once you get a seat, the aim is to pretend to "sleep"that way, no one can give you dirty looks when you don't give up your seat to others who need it more. Its amazing how a presence of an old person puts those seated to sleep almost immediately.
Amazing, and only in The Land of The Wealthy. Stay tuned for more sports events.
